Guttering, fascias & soffits: common questions
Why is my gutter overflowing?
Usually a blockage from moss, leaves or debris washed off the roof, or a run that has lost its fall so water sits instead of flowing to the outlet. Failed joints can also leak before the gutter ever fills.
Can you repair just one section of guttering?
Yes. Single joints, brackets and sections can be replaced without renewing the whole run, as long as the rest is in reasonable condition.
Should I replace fascias and gutters at the same time?
If the fascia boards are rotten, yes. New gutters need something solid to fix to. If the fascias are sound, the guttering can be dealt with on its own.
Can overflowing gutters cause damp inside the house?
Yes. Water pouring down an outside wall can soak into the brickwork and show up as damp inside, especially on older houses with solid walls.
